JOURNEYMAN ARTIST HITTING HER STRIDE & THRIVING ON AUSTIN'S EAST SIDE
A USTIN, Texas – In her 30 years as a working painter, Linda Dumont has been quite prolific. Her gallery –located at 906 E. 5th Street – bears witness to this, boasting abstract paintings, Austin cityscapes, and iconic Texas landmarks abundant with the vibrant colors and bold strokes for which Dumont has become known.
The real magic, however, takes place at her working studio, located at 815 E. 52nd Street, where Dumont toils away, turning blank canvases into multi-colored masterpieces.
“After years of creating, my style has evolved to become a series of abstract and representational images. Each piece is part of a larger canvas that advances my painting style. Ultimately, my art fits together like a puzzle,” explains Dumont. “I produce work in a category I like to call ‘paraserialism’ – a hybrid of ‘parallel’ and ‘serial’ – in that my paintings can live beside each other in a continual context or series.”
In Dumont’s work, the unconscious become the conscious and the real world is inverted to reflect subjects through her own unique inner lens. Dumont thereby creates urban vistas in a decidedly off-beat style: visually provocative, compositionally exciting, and wild with color.
“Linda’s work is so brave,” explains Maria Magdalena Tafich, a private collector who owns 5 of Dumont’s paintings. “It is passion personified.”
In a career that has spanned 30 years, Dumont’s work is owned by business, government and private art collectors in 22 states and several countries. Here in Texas, one can find her abstracts at Motorola, Austin Ventures, Deloitte Consulting and at the McAllen International Museum, among other sites. Her unique interpretations of downtown Austin and Houston, the Texas State House, the Alamo, and the Astros' Enron Field can be seen at a growing number of installations in Austin and elsewhere.
Dumont has been based in Austin since 1984. She is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She also trained at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. Her work has been in several national and regional juried art exhibitions and has been included in group shows in Massachusetts and Texas. She is also represented in several prestigious corporate collections around the country.
